The World’s Biggest Parents’ Meeting
”The World’s Biggest Parents’ Meeting” was organized last night, when over 20 000 parents gathered at the same time in 160 schools around Finland. The idea was to tell parents about the several inspiring things that are done in schools around the country and engage parents in developing the education.
Johanna Järvinen-Taubert from Learning Scoop attended the meeting in Sääksjärvi School in Lempäälä. In the meeting the principal and teachers told about the great development projects currently carried out at school. The staff and parents together discussed what are the most important things children should learn at school. To spark the discussion, Johanna was asked to give a short speech on the topic together with an other parent.
The whole evening was well prepared with interesting videos and inspiring stories from every-day school life. Parents were enthusiastic and pleased with this excellent example of school-home co-operation.
Project webpages can be found here (only in Finnish and in Swedish). Also social media was actively involved.
