Education in Finland Study Tour

The same principles follow throughout the life-long learning path.

Learning Scoop provides an inclusive Education in Finland Study Tour where participants have the opportunity to become familiar with the Finnish education system at all levels and explore the factors influencing its success from early childhood education to higher education.

Target groups: teachers, principals, school owners, anyone interested in Finnish education system

Objectives: The program gives visitors an overview of the Finnish education system, Finnish society and culture, support systems, learning and teaching approaches and how it is implemented in action. The program also presents the Finnish everyday school life, gives visitors the chance to observe and reflect Finnish education on-site, get the research-based background on what, why and how Finnish education is conducted and to see the Miracle of Finnish Education in practice.

The Program

Monday: Introduction to the Finnish Education System

  • Finnish Education system and training routes
  • Introduction to the principles behind the education system
  • Paradoxes of Finnish Education: Less is More, No dead ends etc.
  • National core curriculum
  • Assessment in the Finnish Comprehensive Education
  • Visit to a primary and lower secondary school (grades 1–9)

Tuesday: Early Childhood Education and Care in Finland

  • Educare model: integrated approach to care, education and teaching
  • National Core Curriculum for ECEC in Finland: areas of learning and transversal competencies
  • Learning through play
  • Child-centered pedagogy: inquiry-based learning, hands-on learning, small group activities, versatile learning environments
  • Pre-primary education as a link between early childhood education and school
  • Visit to a day care center and pre-primary classes

Wednesday: General upper secondary education in Finland

  • Educare model: integrated approach to care, education and teaching
  • National Core Curriculum for ECEC in Finland: areas of learning and transversal competencies
  • Learning through play
  • Child-centered pedagogy: inquiry-based learning, hands-on learning, small group activities, versatile learning environments
  • Pre-primary education as a link between early childhood education and school

Thursday: Vocational education and training in Finland

  • Initial vocational qualifications, further vocational qualifications and specialist vocational qualifications
  • Competence-based curriculum
  • A personal competence development plan
  • Work-based learning / on-the-job learning
  • Double degree: combining high school and vocational education diploma
  • Visit to a vocational school

Friday: Higher education in Finland

  • Higher education provided by universities and universities of applied sciences
  • Pedagogy in Finnish higher education
  • Studying in higher education: self-directed learning and a high degree of flexibility
  • Connection to working-life
  • Visit to a higher education institution
  • Evaluation and reflection of the program
  • Farewell lunch

Visits include:

  • Guided visits to Finnish schools
  • Different types of visits: from a day care centre to a higher education institution
  • Participation in the school’s day-to-day activities: classroom, meal time, recesses etc.
  • Opportunities to talk with teachers and students

Trainers:

Learning Scoop’s staff comprises experienced teachers, principals and education experts, who have received excellent feedback on their work. The trainers at Learning Scoop have years of teaching experience gained through the Finnish educational community and through teacher training.

The price for individual participant is 1450e + possible VAT 25,5% / person

Group prices:

10-14 participants in a group the price is 1300e+ possible VAT 25,5% / person


15-20 participants in a group the price is 1200e+ possible VAT 25,5% / person
